OUR JOURNEY

Expulsion is a harsh word, one usually reserved for those who have caused harm or committed serious offenses. To be expelled for simply existing as yourself is a confusing and isolating experience for a young person. Yet, watching our son process this rejection has been one of the most profound lessons in courage we have ever witnessed.

Resilience Beyond the Badge

In the days following our departure from the school, there were tears, but there was also a quiet resolve. He realized that his friends were still his friends, and his family was more supportive than ever. He is learning that his identity is not tied to a school uniform or a set of arbitrary rules, but to his own sense of truth.

Strength for the Journey Ahead

This trial has forged a resilience in him that will serve him for the rest of his life. He knows now that standing up for what is right often comes at a cost, but that the cost is always smaller than the price of losing oneself. We are immensely proud of the young man he is becoming through this fire.
